CONCORD — Responding to the growing popularity of pickleball, the city plans to convert four tennis courts at Willow Pass Park into 14 courts dedicated to the sport.
“We’re going to be paving the way for larger tournaments in our region because this will be one of the largest pickleball complexes that we’re aware of in Northern California,” said Steve Voorhies, director of parks and recreation.
The city’s tennis courts are badly in need of repair. As part of a project to resurface the eight lighted tennis courts at Willow Pass Park and three at Concord Community Park that have been out of commission since 2008, the city will install the pickleball courts.
